Check the complete journey
A useful accessibility plan covers the street entrance, gates, platform, any interchange and the exit at your destination. A station having an elevator does not establish that every entrance or transfer is step-free.
Check the pavement between the station and your destination too. Hills, kerbs, construction and narrow entrances can affect a journey that looks simple on a map.
Use station accessibility information
Naver Map and KakaoMap are Korean navigation apps. Look for stair-avoidance options where available and check the accessibility details for the stations on your route.
In KakaoMap, 교통약자정보 means accessibility information for passengers with mobility needs. The operator describes station floor plans, accessible routes and exit-level information for elevators, escalators and wheelchair lifts.
Note the exact entrance and floors served. 엘리베이터 means elevator; 휠체어 리프트 refers to a wheelchair lift, which may be a stair-mounted platform rather than an enclosed elevator.
Confirm equipment suitability and availability
If a route uses a wheelchair lift, ask station staff about operation, dimensions and weight limits. Do not use equipment that is unsuitable for your chair or attempt a transfer you cannot make safely.
Check for an elevator outage shortly before departure. Where the operator offers outage notifications, confirm how to register and whether your contact method is supported.
A facility record or map icon is not a live guarantee. Contact the station if a single elevator is essential to completing the journey.
Ask about boarding assistance
Platform gaps and height differences vary by station and boarding position. Ask staff before reaching the platform if you need a portable ramp or assistance boarding and leaving the train.
Explain your destination and any transfer so assistance can be coordinated. Allow extra time and follow the agreed boarding position.
Contact the correct operator
Seoul Metro's customer centre is 1577-1234. The wider metropolitan network includes other operators, so confirm who runs the station or line you will use.
For tourism planning, Seoul Danurim and the Korea Tourism Organization's accessible-travel information can help identify relevant facilities and contacts.
Save the route and operator contact details offline, and keep an alternative if equipment or weather changes the plan.
