Save ordinary numbers in international format
Korea's country code is +82. For an ordinary Korean mobile or geographic landline number, remove the initial domestic 0 after adding the country code.
| Domestic format | International format |
|---|---|
| 010-1234-5678 | +82 10 1234 5678 |
| 02-312-3456 | +82 2 312 3456 |
| 051-123-4567 | +82 51 123 4567 |
| 032-123-4567 | +82 32 123 4567 |
| 064-123-4567 | +82 64 123 4567 |
These are formatting examples. Use the actual number published by your contact.
International format is useful when travelling between countries. Local-format dialling may also work while roaming, depending on the network and device; it is not universally impossible from a foreign SIM in Korea.
Recognise area and service codes
02 is Seoul's area code, 051 is Busan's, 032 is Incheon's and 064 is Jeju's. Include the area code when dialling from a mobile or another region as required.
070 identifies an internet-telephone service rather than a geographic area. It can be used by businesses or individuals and does not tell you whether someone will answer at a desk or outside business hours.
Use the published overseas number for businesses
Business numbers beginning with codes such as 1544, 1566, 1577 or 1588 can have special routing and may not accept calls from abroad. Do not assume that adding +82 makes every such number reachable.
Look for the organisation's overseas contact number, a geographic landline or an official online contact option. These business numbers do not all route to the nearest branch.
Emergency and tourism numbers
Within Korea, call 112 for police or 119 for fire, ambulance or rescue. Use the phone's emergency-call option if needed. A powered, functioning device and an available compatible network are still necessary; no setting can guarantee a call without a connection.
1330 is the Korea Tourism Organization's travel helpline. From overseas, use +82 2 1330, or check the official online calling and chat options.
Share the number clearly
Both domestic and international formats can be understood when written clearly. Keep the country code when sending a number to someone who may call from abroad.
If you are unsure of digits spoken aloud, ask the person to write or send the number. Korean phone numbers are usually read digit by digit, and 공 (gong) is commonly used for zero.
