Choose and set up the app
Kakao T is Kakao Mobility's transport-booking app, including taxis and other services. k.ride is its taxi app designed for visitors, with overseas account and payment options.
Check the official app listing, supported payment methods and current service area. Register and add a payment method before you need a time-sensitive journey. An overseas card is not automatically excluded from Kakao T, but individual cards and services can have different requirements.
Confirm the ride details
Check the pickup pin, side of the road and destination entrance. Choose a vehicle suitable for your group and luggage, and read the fare estimate and any additional charges.
Service availability varies by place and time. Premium, larger or branded cars can have different fares and cancellation terms. Use the terms shown for the ride you are about to request, rather than an old screenshot from another service.
When the driver arrives, match the vehicle and registration details with the app before getting in.
Check how payment will be taken
If the selected service offers direct payment, confirm that the driver can accept your intended payment method. A card terminal does not automatically accept every phone wallet or overseas card.
If automatic payment is selected, do not also pay the driver without resolving the payment status. Check the trip receipt and contact support if a charge is unclear.
Tipping is not generally expected for an ordinary taxi ride in Korea. If an optional tip appears, you can decline it; distinguish it from the fare or another stated charge.
Use the app's support when needed
Keep the trip record and receipt if you need help with a payment, lost item or booking issue. Use the current support contact in the app, and confirm whether the issue concerns the taxi ride or another service.
Other taxi apps and street-hail taxis may be options, depending on the location. Check availability and payment arrangements rather than assuming the same account works everywhere.
