Read the closing notice
A regular closing day (정기휴무일) is a business's usual scheduled day off. Temporary closures, holiday hours and early closing can change that schedule.
| Korean notice | Meaning |
|---|---|
| 매주 월요일 휴무 | The business closes every Monday. |
| 격주 일요일 휴무 | The business closes every other Sunday. Confirm which Sunday applies. |
| 둘째·넷째 수요일 휴무 | The business closes on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month. |
| 매월 첫째 주 월요일 휴무 | The business closes on the first Monday of each month. |
| 명절 당일 휴무 | The business closes on the main day of the traditional holiday. |
| 연중무휴 | The business advertises that it opens every day of the year. |
Seollal is Korean Lunar New Year, and Chuseok is the autumn harvest holiday. A notice may refer to one of these holidays or to the full surrounding break; check the dates shown.
Check the exact branch
Naver Map and KakaoMap are Korean navigation apps that can show business hours and closure notices. Compare the listing with the business's latest dated website or social-media notice.
If the information conflicts, call the venue. A notice for one branch does not necessarily apply to another, even within the same chain.
Large supermarkets and department stores
Covered large supermarkets have locally implemented closing-day rules. Do not assume every branch closes on the second and fourth Sunday: some areas use weekdays, and exceptions apply.
Check the exact branch's current calendar, especially around public holidays. Department stores also publish their own branch calendars; look for 휴점, meaning that the store is closed that day.
Lotte's branch calendar, Shinsegae and Hyundai are starting points for those chains.
Different parts of a market may keep different hours
A traditional market can contain a food alley, clothing arcade and general stalls with separate schedules. Individual traders may also take their own days off.
Check the part of the market you want to visit. A general statement that the market is closed on Sunday may not apply to its restaurants, and an open food alley does not mean every shop is trading.
Find an open clinic or pharmacy
Clinics and pharmacies can close on weekends, holidays or selected weekday afternoons. Use E-Gen, Korea's emergency medical portal, or the Korean Pharmaceutical Association's holiday-pharmacy finder to find options.
Call to confirm opening hours before travelling, especially late at night or during a holiday. For an emergency, call 119.
Recheck before leaving
Check the exact venue, branch and date when planning, then recheck before making a special journey. Save a nearby alternative in case a temporary closure is announced at short notice.
