I was overcharged or scammed

Keep evidence without putting yourself at risk

If it is safe, ask for an explanation of the charge and request a receipt. Keep the advertised price, booking conditions, payment record and messages. Note the date, time, business name and address.

For a taxi, record the vehicle registration, journey start and end, payment amount and any app booking details. Do not remain in a threatening situation or confront someone merely to obtain a photograph.

A missing receipt does not mean you cannot report the problem. Provide the evidence you do have and explain what is missing.

Choose the appropriate help route

1330 is the Korea Tourism Organization's travel helpline. It can assist with communication and direct you to a complaint service, but it does not decide a legal dispute or guarantee a refund. Use the official Visit Korea contact page for telephone and chat options.

The Tourist Complaint Center accepts written complaints about tourism experiences. Explain what happened, attach relevant evidence and state the outcome you are seeking.

For broader consumer guidance, 1372 is Korea's consumer-counselling number. Calls are charged, and the available language support and next steps depend on the service. Counselling is not the same as a binding order against a business.

Call 112 for urgent police assistance or suspected crime. Do not assume that a case is outside police responsibility simply because money or a price is involved.

Ask about Seoul's tourism complaint scheme

The Seoul Tourism Complaint Center lists contact details and assistance for visitor complaints. Ask whether a compensation programme applies to your incident and what evidence, location and timing conditions it requires.

A programme that can pay compensation in eligible cases is not a promise that every reported overcharge will be refunded. Confirm the current conditions before relying on a payment.

Report a taxi problem with the trip details

Seoul provides multilingual taxi-complaint reporting through QR codes. Use the official reporting route linked by the city and include the vehicle and journey details.

A fare may include legitimate tolls or surcharges, so ask for the calculation if it is unclear. If you suspect an incorrect card amount, also contact the card issuer promptly about its dispute process.

Describe the disagreement precisely

A difference between a displayed price and a charged price is useful evidence, but the circumstances and applicable terms still need assessment. Record the exact product, quantity and any promotion conditions rather than relying only on a photograph of a nearby sign.
