Re-entering Korea on a multi-country trip

Check the documents for each arrival

A multi-country itinerary can involve more than one entry into Korea. For each arrival, check your passport, any visa or travel authorisation, and the arrival-declaration requirement.

K-ETA means Korea Electronic Travel Authorization, a pre-travel approval for eligible visa-free visitors. The official guide says a valid approval can be used for multiple entries within its validity period. It is normally valid for up to three years or until the linked passport expires, whichever comes first.

You do not ordinarily need a new application just because you took a side trip, but check that the approval remains valid and update changed travel information. A reissued passport requires a new application when K-ETA is required.

Recheck exemptions for the return date

The current nationality-based temporary exemption runs through 31 December 2026 in Korean time. Check the official notice for an arrival after that date rather than assuming either an extension or a new requirement.

Age and status exemptions have separate conditions. A birthday between visits can matter for an age-based exemption, so check the traveller's age on each entry date.

Exemption from K-ETA does not by itself remove the arrival-declaration requirement. “Do I need both K-ETA and the e-Arrival Card?” explains the distinction.

Check the permitted stay separately

The official eligibility page lists allowances by nationality. Some passports have both a per-visit limit and a combined limit within a 180-day period. For those travellers, previous visits count towards the combined limit.

For any passport, immigration determines admission and the permitted stay for the entry. Do not assume that a brief trip abroad guarantees another full allowance, and do not invent a combined limit where the published rule does not provide one. If your itinerary approaches a limit or involves repeated visits, ask 1345, Korea's immigration information service, about the applicable rule before booking.

Check visa and residence conditions if they apply

A visa may permit a single entry or multiple entries, and residence holders can have separate re-entry requirements or exemptions. Check the conditions of your own status through Hi Korea or immigration before leaving.

A tourist using visa-free entry should follow the requirements for a new visit. Guidance about a resident's re-entry permit is not a substitute for checking those visitor requirements.
