Compare the same product across two shops
Olive Young Global (글로벌몰) is an export website launched in 2019, with about 4.53 million members at the end of 2025, concentrated in the United States, Japan and the United Kingdom, carrying more than 10,000 lines.
Some large Korean stores carry an extensive range. Myeongdong is a central Seoul shopping district. Central Myeongdong Town, opened 26 March 2026, runs to three floors with roughly 1,000 brands and 15,000 products, a sheet-mask wall of about 800 lines and 22 staffed tills; about 95% of the Myeongdong (명동) district's sales are to international visitors.
The ranges and bundles differ. Search for the exact product, size and quantity in both channels before comparing prices; catalogue totals alone cannot tell you whether your item is available.
What you really pay in the store
A Korean shelf price is tax-inclusive. The VAT (value-added tax) inside it is one eleventh of the ticket — about 9.09% — and a short-stay visitor claims part of it back. The refund is banded, not proportional, from Global Tax Free's schedule:

The floor is ₩15,000 including tax per transaction, and the till hands the money back only while that transaction is under ₩1,000,000 and your purchases using immediate refund this trip stay at ₩5,000,000 or less; beyond that you are at a counter or the airport. Olive Young is where this happens — 88% of Global Tax Free's Korean cosmetics refund transactions in January–November 2025 were rung up in its stores.
On top of the refund sit the store promotions: 1+1 and 2+1, the four Olive Young sale (올영세일) weeks, and a rotating set of foreigner-facing payment discounts the company publishes itself — in early 2026, 10% off capped at ₩20,000 on spends of at least ₩100,000 paid by UnionPay and 5% off capped at ₩10,000 with WOWPASS, the prepaid card that turns foreign cash into won at a kiosk. Those payment offers have expired. Check the current offer’s dates and combination rules; not every discount stacks.
What you really pay on Global
Select the shipping destination first. The Global storefront currently says it does not ship to the 50 US states or Washington, DC. Do not build a US order around an old shipping promotion.
For a supported destination, compare the final checkout total: exact product and quantity, usable coupons, delivery charge, currency conversion and any import taxes or carrier fees. The storefront advertises first-order 30% + 25% coupons, but eligibility, caps and exclusions matter; that is not a blanket 55% reduction. The March 2026 sale combined regional cart coupons with a 20% app coupon as a past promotion, not a permanent benefit.
An overseas delivery does not give you the Korean tourist refund used for goods you personally take out of Korea.
Allow for destination customs
Purchases carried home and parcels shipped home can both be subject to the destination’s rules. Check its customs authority and the seller’s checkout terms, including who pays any import charges. For US international mail, CBP announced continued suspension of the $800 de minimis exemption. The old $80/$160/$200 postal-duty option was temporary and should not be used as a current price estimate.
Compare the final cost for your basket
Compare a basket you actually want, not headline discount percentages.

Buying in Korea gives you the product during the trip. Global can suit repeat purchases after you return, where shipping is supported. Neither channel is always cheaper.
And time it either way: the store sale runs in March, June, September and December, and Global's season sale runs the same four months — in 2026 the spring pair overlapped exactly, 1 to 7 March in store and to 7 March online.
In the store
Selected tourist-district stores are receiving an AI kiosk in eight languages that answers product, stock and refund questions without staff, and a 38-language translation service you reach by scanning a QR code a member of staff shows you. Ask staff to confirm the offer if the explanation is unclear.
