Ask your accommodation about luggage storage
Ask your hotel first. For example, Lotte Hotel Seoul puts it plainly in its guest FAQ — luggage can be stored before check-in and after check-out at the bell desk. Storage arrangements vary. Ask where bags will be kept and how collection works.
- Ask whether storage is free for guests and whether any size or duration limit applies.
- Confirm that someone will be available when you arrive. Small hotels, motels and guesthouses may have limited reception hours or storage space.
- Get a tag, or photograph the tag. Keep the claim ticket until you have collected all your bags.
Some hotels can help arrange onward luggage delivery, which is a separate service — “Luggage delivery to my hotel”.
Seoul's subway lockers
When you have checked out and not yet checked in — the classic last-day problem — the subway is the fallback, and it is unusually dense. The T-Locker (또타라커) system run by Seoul Metro has 5,557 lockers at 336 locations across 273 stations. Compare these published dimensions with your bag before booking:
| Size | W × D × H | Base, 4 h — weekday | Base, 4 h — weekend | Each extra hour |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Small (소형) | 50 × 30 × 60 cm | ₩2,200 | ₩3,100 | ₩500 |
| Medium (중형) | 50 × 45 × 60 cm | ₩3,300 | ₩4,600 | ₩800 |
| Large (대형) | 50 × 90 × 60 cm | ₩4,400 | ₩6,100 | ₩1,000 |
Weekend prices differ from weekday prices. Check the full storage period when calculating the cost.
The lockers run 05:00–24:00 every day including holidays, and nothing can be deposited or collected outside those hours — a bag left in one cannot be retrieved for a red-eye flight. A case wider than 50 cm will not go in any of them. Items left five days or more are moved out to a separate store; an overdue item is held a month and then, absent a request to extend, donated or destroyed.
Reserve before you get to the station. The T locker 또타라커 app runs in Korean, English, Japanese and Chinese and lets you find and book a locker in advance, which matters: lockers at Hongdae (the nightlife and student district around Hongik University), Myeongdong (central Seoul's main shopping street, and its cosmetics district) and Seoul Station fill on weekend afternoons, and walking between three stations with a suitcase looking for a free one is a bad end to a trip. The current locker door has no payment terminal at all — a numeric keypad, no card reader, no coin slot — so payment happens inside the app, whose published methods are a credit card, a bank transfer and phone billing. Two of those need a Korean bank or a Korean phone contract; check that your card works in the app before relying on a locker.
Seoul's own guidance bars valuables, food, animals, plants and hazardous items from a locker. The step-by-step of using a station locker is “Luggage lockers at subway stations”.
T-Luggage (또타러기지): staffed luggage-storage counters
For a bag too large for a locker, or a longer wait, Seoul Metro also runs T-Luggage, a staffed counter rather than a machine, at the stations foreign visitors use. The operator's own site lists six branches — Gangnam, Seoul Station, Hongik University (홍대입구), Myeongdong, Jamsil and Gimpo Airport — open every day 09:00–21:00, on 02-6110-2977. Suseo and Jongno 3-ga have closed; a guide listing seven branches at 10:00–22:00 is out of date.
The operator lists these storage bands by suitcase size. Check the final quote and collection hours for your dates:
| Case size | Up to 4 hours | Over 4 to 8 hours | 24 hours | Each additional day |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Small, up to about 20 inches | ₩3,000 | ₩5,000 | ₩6,000 | ₩4,000 |
| Medium, about 20–23 inches | ₩4,000 | ₩6,000 | ₩9,000 | ₩6,000 |
| Large, about 23–27 inches | ₩6,000 | ₩8,000 | ₩12,000 | ₩7,000 |
| Extra large, over about 27 inches | ₩8,000 | ₩10,000 | ₩15,000 | ₩9,000 |
A large case overnight is ₩12,000 at the desk against about ₩24,000 on a large locker's hourly meter — but its published 09:00–21:00 collection hours are shorter than the locker access hours described above.
The same counters move a bag rather than hold it: ₩14,000–₩24,000 between Gangnam, Gimpo Airport and Hongdae, or ₩18,000–₩28,000 from Hongdae to either Incheon terminal. If what you need is the luggage delivered onward, compare that with the hotel-to-hotel services in “Luggage delivery to my hotel” before booking either.
Check that a recommended storage service is still operating
Older guides may recommend LugStay, but its former website no longer provides a working booking service. Check any storage provider’s current booking page, location and collection hours before travelling there. A hotel, station locker or staffed counter may be a more practical alternative.
At the airport
If the gap is at the start or end of the trip, both Incheon terminals have a staffed left-luggage counter — Terminal 1 near check-in row B, Terminal 2 near row H. Terminal 2's runs around the clock; Terminal 1's keeps daytime hours. Rates are per 24 hours by size, with short-stay rates for a few hours, and the counters do not publish them. Take identification as well as the ticket, because collection is against both.
The clock on a locker
Left luggage has a clock on it in a way hotel storage does not. A subway locker keeps charging by the hour, and an item left far beyond the limit is removed and disposed of rather than kept. If the plan involves leaving a bag overnight, calculate the total charge first. Compare it with a staffed counter or your hotel, including when you can collect the bag.
