Where to go
Seoul runs eleven Han River parks under the Future Hangang Headquarters (미래한강본부) — Gwangnaru, Jamsil, Ttukseom, Jamwon, Ichon, Banpo, Mangwon, Yeouido, Nanji, Gangseo and Yanghwa. These four offer different picnic settings:
| Park | Why | Delivery |
|---|---|---|
| Banpo (반포한강공원) | You can watch the bridge fountain from the riverside lawns. | Confirm a collection point before ordering. |
| Yeouido (여의도한강공원) | The park has a large tent area and views of the city skyline. | 3 delivery zones |
| Ttukseom (뚝섬한강공원) | The park has broad riverside spaces for a picnic. | 2 delivery zones |
| Mangwon (망원한강공원) | You can buy food at Mangwon Market before walking to the river. | Confirm a collection point before ordering. |
How the delivery works
The city's own answer to "can I order chicken and pizza at the Han River?" is that Ttukseom and Yeouido operate delivery zones to keep delivery motorbikes out of the park, and that you collect your food at the zone and carry it to wherever you are sitting.
- Ttukseom — 2 zones: in front of the Ttukseom underpass entrance (뚝섬 나들목), and in front of the Ttukseom information centre.
- Yeouido — 3 zones: in front of car park 2, in front of the Yeouido underpass entrance (여의도 나들목), and beside the entrance to Mulbit Plaza (물빛광장).
Choose a collection zone before placing your order. Allow enough time to walk there from your picnic spot, and watch for the rider’s message. At other parks, confirm an accessible collection point with the restaurant or rider instead of assuming that delivery is possible at your location.
Check the app’s registration and payment requirements. Korean delivery apps are built around a Korean phone number and a Korean card. The route the tourism board itself points at is SHUTTLE Delivery — an app in English, Japanese and Chinese that needs no Korean phone number and no Korean card, taking international cards and PayPal, and covering parts of Seoul, Pyeongtaek, Busan and Daegu. Coverage is patchy by district, so check the address before you plan the evening around it.
Returnable containers are worth knowing about. Since April 2025 the Yeouido and Ttukseom delivery zones have had return bins for stainless-steel containers (다회용기): Yogiyo and Ddangggyeo carry a dedicated category, while on Baemin and Coupang Eats you search 다회용기 to find participating restaurants; you scan a code and drop the containers in the bin afterwards. Returning the containers reduces the disposable packaging you need to carry away.
If delivery is unavailable, look for a nearby convenience store or bring food with you. Some riverside stores have machines for cooking instant noodles, known as ramyeon. Buy a packet and follow the instructions beside the cooker; facilities and opening hours vary by store.
What you are allowed to do
The governing text is Seoul's Han River park ordinance, and the city publishes the fine schedule in full. The following restrictions can affect a picnic:
| What | Fine |
|---|---|
| Camping or cooking outside a designated area | ₩1,000,000 (2nd ₩2m, 3rd ₩3m) |
| Not clearing rubbish you generated while relaxing | ₩100,000 |
| Dumping litter, cigarette ends or gum outside a bin | ₩30,000 |
| Loud noise, foul smell, or drunken behaviour alarming others | ₩70,000 |
| A dog off the lead | ₩50,000 |
Check the park’s current notices before drinking alcohol. Do not cause a disturbance, and follow any local no-drinking restrictions.
Cook only in a designated cooking area. Do not bring a gas stove, charcoal grill or camping burner to an ordinary picnic spot. Bring prepared food instead, and take away your rubbish if the bins are full.
Tents and mats
The city's 2026 shade-tent notice is precise:
- Picnic mats (돗자리) are not subject to the seasonal shade-tent schedule. Choose a permitted picnic space, keep paths clear and respect any temporary closures.
- A shade tent (그늘막) is allowed only in 15 designated zones, only between 1 March and 30 November 2026, at 2 m × 2 m or thereabouts (a four-person size), and only in the hours below. Outside those months, tents are not permitted anywhere.
| Months | Hours | Take it down at |
|---|---|---|
| March–May, September–November | 09:00–19:00 | 19:00 |
| June–August | 09:00–20:00 | 20:00 |
The biggest zones are Yeouido's summer campground and seasonal plaza (45,000 m²), Banpo's two picnic grounds either side of Banpo Bridge (26,800 m²) and Ttukseom's two beside the waterside stage (26,000 m²); Gwangnaru, Jamsil, Jamwon, Ichon, Yanghwa, Mangwon, Nanji and Gangseo each have one or two smaller ones.
The fountain, if you are at Banpo
The Moonlight Rainbow Fountain (달빛무지개분수) runs along 1,140 m of Banpo Bridge and is registered with Guinness as the world's longest bridge fountain. The city's page gives the schedule — each show is 20 minutes, free, and best watched from the lawn on the south bank:
| Season | Mon–Thu | Fri, Sat, Sun and holidays |
|---|---|---|
| 15 March – June, September–October | 20:00, 20:30, 21:00 | 19:30, 20:00, 20:30, 21:00 |
| July–August | 20:00, 20:30, 21:00 | 19:30, 20:00, 20:30, 21:00, 21:30 |
It is switched off when wind reaches 7 m/s, when rain is forecast during a show, or when suspended particles make the river water too cloudy for operation — so on a grey day, check before you build the evening around it. The operations line is 02-3780-0578.
Practical
- Check the walking route from your subway exit to the park entrance. Some entrances use a pedestrian underpass called a nadeulmok (나들목); others use bridges or different access routes. Delivery collection points are separate destinations, so check their locations too.
- Mats are rentable at kiosks in the bigger parks, and convenience stores sell disposable ones for a few thousand won.
- Allow time to find a picnic spot. Popular areas can be crowded on summer evenings.
- Locate the nearest toilets on the park map when choosing your picnic spot.
- Bring insect repellent for a summer evening beside the river.
- Bring a bin bag and a hand wipe. See the fine schedule above.
