Before you start
Install Naver Map (a Korean navigation app) and have your passport ready. Use a well-lit place for camera checks and allow time to complete the process before you need to book. The service was introduced on 4 June 2026 for foreign users holding an overseas-issued passport — “Booking on Naver with a passport, not a Korean ID”.
Follow the current verification prompts
Naver confirms the service, but the announcement is not a screen-by-screen walkthrough. The steps below are preparation guidance; follow the actual prompts in the current app.
- Start a Naver account and choose passport verification — 여권 인증 (yeogwon injeung). Naver Map's own release notes describe it as a way of signing up for a Naver account, so it is offered where the app asks a new member to prove identity (본인 인증, bonin injeung) — where a Korean would be asked for a phone number.
- Photograph the passport's photo page. The app reads your name, number, nationality and dates from the page itself. Lay the passport flat, fill the frame, and keep the two lines of machine-readable text at the foot of the page inside it.
- Complete the face check — 얼굴 인식 (eolgul insik). The camera checks that a live person is in front of it, then matches your face to the passport photograph. Follow the app’s instructions about lighting, glasses and how to position your face.
- Review the result. Confirm that verification completed before returning to the booking. If the check fails, read the error message and use the app’s support instructions before retrying.
When it is done
Once verification succeeds, you can use the account for supported Naver reservations, orders and payments. Each venue still controls availability and accepted payment methods. Keep access to the account you verified. Verification does not override a restaurant’s restrictions on foreign-card payments — “My restaurant booking silently failed”.
