Use passport verification for participating services
Naver introduced passport verification on 4 June 2026, and with it a visitor can use Naver Reservation, Naver Order and payment inside Naver Map, its navigation app, for participating services, subject to each venue’s availability and payment settings. The option provides an alternative to Korean carrier identity verification. Naver Pay (a Korean mobile payment wallet), Naver Webtoon and the Chzzk streaming service are named as the next services to take it.
How the check works
Naver confirms smartphone passport verification without a Korean phone number or customer-service contact. Follow the passport and face-verification prompts in the app. Read each request in the app and check the result before returning to your booking. “Naver passport verification, step by step” explains the preparation and checks.
Who qualifies
Naver describes the service as available to foreign users holding an overseas-issued passport. Use the app’s eligibility and document instructions for your account.
The language problem
Naver Map offers English, Japanese and Chinese interfaces, but some linked booking or verification screens may use a different language. Do it at the hotel the evening before you need a table, with the Korean terms from the phrase list beside you, not at a restaurant door.
What it does not fix
Passport verification proves who you are. It says nothing about your card. A restaurant on Naver can switch off reservations and payments from overseas-issued cards, so a verified account does not guarantee payment acceptance — “My restaurant booking silently failed”. For help with the payment step, see “Paying a restaurant deposit with a foreign card”.
