Check whether Google Maps can provide your route
Finding a place on Google Maps does not mean the app can navigate there. Search, public-transport directions, walking directions and driving directions are separate features. Check the complete route, including the walk from a station to your destination, before relying on it.
Why navigation has been limited
Korea restricts the export of detailed mapping data. Google’s request to use that data abroad has been subject to government approval and conditions. A conditional approval in 2026 does not, by itself, establish which navigation features are available in the version of the app you use.
Keep a Korean mapping app available
Naver Map and KakaoMap are Korean navigation apps with local place information and directions. Naver Map has an English interface. Try a route in one of these apps if Google Maps cannot provide it.
If searching in English does not find the destination, paste its Korean name or address. Confirm the branch and location before setting off. Save the address and a screenshot of the route so you can consult them if your connection drops.
